Description
Agitate
Poster interventions on London streets, billboards and placards in Northern Ireland, immersive installations in public galleries… Michael Peel’s concern with the ways that politics and statecraft impact on individuals and communities has persisted for more than four decades. His most recent work AGITATE (2016) is a typically acerbic comment on governmental inaction. Specifically a lament for the victims of more or less proxy warfare: the criminal and repeated murder of helpless civilians over the course of history. And more generally a call to continually question the ‘powers that be’, to hold to account those who exercise macro-political/economic decision-making while seemingly ignoring the impact myopic polices and ideologies have on those most vulnerable in society.
